When leisure travel is allowed again, Oregon’s coastal communities are ready to welcome you back to their spectacular oceanfront resorts, charming beachside cottages and family-friendly spaces for all budgets. Visitors can have peace of mind, too, knowing that all have updated their COVID-19 cleaning protocols according to state mandates to ensure a safe experience for all. This includes everything from deep-cleaning between parties to limiting common areas, frequently sanitizing high-touch areas and providing plenty of private spaces for your own traveling party to enjoy while social distancing. Here’s just a sampling of the outstanding places to stay on the Coast.

South Coast

Bay Point Landing — This luxury RV park in Coos Bay is definitely eye-catching, with its dramatically modern glass, steel and wood-beam A-frame rental cabins as well as Airstream trailers and RV sites. All are situated around a lodge, gym, spa, laundry, pool and playground — which were open (with exception of the pool and playground) as of May 22. Spend the afternoon watching the wildlife on the bay.

Bandon Inn — This 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destination earns rave reviews for its recently remodeled rooms, great views and unbeatable location in Old Town Bandon. The town’s walkable blocks are filled with cheerful eateries, shops, art and fresh-seafood shacks, with an endless array of cultural and outdoor activities. Dog-friendly rooms are available.

WildSpring Guest Habitat — The five luxuriously cozy cabins at this eco-friendly (zero-carbon footprint) retreat occupy 5 acres of secluded forestland in Port Orford. Designed as the ultimate wellness getaway, guests have access to a walking labyrinth, a jetted hot tub and spa service by appointment, and an abundance of privacy that makes social distancing easy.

Pacific Reef Hotel — If you’re looking for a quiet and decidedly less-crowded beach town — yet with easy access to coffee shops and just down the road from Rogue River adventures at Jerry’s Rogue Jets — Gold Beach is your place. Conveniently located just off Highway 101, the sweet A-frame cottages with oceanfront and economy-priced rooms earn great reviews. Dog-friendly rooms are available.

Central Coast

SCP Depoe Bay — SCP stands for “Soul, Community, Planet,” which represents its eco-friendly vibe designed for surfers, yogis and others looking for connectedness to the natural world. The lodge boasts 13 rooms (including bunk-bed rooms for kids and friends) with views of Depoe Bay. Enjoy vegan grab-and-go meals from the on-site market, and stay fit with Peloton bikes and TRX equipment in private rooms.

Hallmark Resort Newport — Just like a Hallmark card, this oceanfront property has offered smiles for everyone since 1948, with a variety of price points and multibedroom options for families. The on-site restaurant, Georgie’s Beachfront Grill, will deliver to your room. Dog-friendly rooms are available. It’s just a mile from Newport’s Historic Bayfront, with restaurants, shopping and attractions aplenty.

Deane’s Oceanfront Lodge — With vintage character as a classic 1950s motor lodge — yet updated with fast Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, electric fireplaces and more — this friendly small business is a lovely base camp for an escape to Yachats. The oceanview rooms let you see and hear the pounding surf. All rooms have a back door that opens to a private covered patio, steps to the beach. Dog-friendly rooms are available.

Driftwood Shores Resort & Conference Center — All rooms in this Florence property are dreamy: oceanview suites with a private balcony (for whale watching and sunsets), some with full kitchens, and three-bedroom units for families. Bring sand toys and kites for the 10 miles of sandy beach at the foot of the property, and order meals from the on-site Surfside Restaurant & Lounge. Dog-friendly rooms are available.

North Coast

Saltline Hotel — This 65-room boutique hotel in downtown Seaside (slated to open in mid-July 2020) brings posh amenities like contemporary art and design throughout the space, cruiser bikes, an EV-charging station and a fourth-floor rooftop space. Some amenities may be delayed due to COVID, including the saltwater pool and spa.

Tolovana Inn — Just down the beach from Haystack Rock on the south side of Cannon Beach, this property is a classic because of its broad range of price points, from budget to high-end oceanfront rooms with full kitchens. Did we mention it’s literally on the beach, nearby Mo’s Seafood & Chowder, Ecola Seafoods Restaurant & Market, Castaways and other top coastal restaurants convenient for ordering in?

Wheeler on the Bay — In the quietly charming town of Wheeler — off the beaten path since it’s inland from the ocean — this inn has earned its title as one of the 100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations for good reason: easy access to fishing on Nehalem Bay, the perfect escape for nature lovers. There’s a fish-cleaning station on the dock and a barbecue to cook what you caught. Paddlers can launch from the dock too, and the inn lends free kayaks for use.
