John Dellenback Dunes Trail

The John Dellenback Dunes Trail begins in a conifer forest setting then leads hikers through the dunes and the deflation plain and ends at the ocean beach.

The trail offers either a difficult trek to the beach or an easy self-guided interpretive loop.

The 2.7 miles to the beach may feel even longer as you traverse soft, open sand dunes. The open sand is unmarked due to constantly changing conditions. Hikers are advised to climb the tallest dune to get their bearings.

Always use caution on the beach. Watch for sneaker waves, know the tide schedule and stay away from logs in the surf or on wet sand. Look out for deep water and strong currents. Please note that biking is not permitted on the trail itself. If you’re looking to ride your fat tire bike on the Oregon dunes, use the Eel Creek Campground trailhead.
